Verdion Appoints Letting Agents for its 6 million sq ft iPort Logistics Scheme

20. 01. 2014

Verdion has appointed Gent Visick, CBRE and Cushman & Wakefield as letting agents for iPort, its £400 million Inland Port project in Rossington near Doncaster, marking the official start of marketing for one of UK’s largest logistics developments.

Inland Port (iPort) is a Strategic Rail Freight Interchange (SRFI) which will deliver over 6 million sq ft (570,000 sq m) of Grade A logistics warehousing linked with a high specification rail freight intermodal container facility providing rail freight services with continental gauge clearance to all major UK ports and the Channel Tunnel.

Logistics developer and investor Verdion, with backing from its funding partner the Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP), is developing the scheme on a 700 acre (283 hectare) site in Rossington, Doncaster. Enabling works commenced in November 2013 with the start of the Finningley and Rossington Regeneration Route Scheme (FARRRS) – the link road which will serve the scheme.

The current proposals are for six large footprint buildings from 1 million sq ft (92,900 sq m), each with high bay facilities of up to 35 metres permitted.

Michael Hughes, CEO of Verdion, comments: “This Strategic Rail Freight Interchange will offer the very best in UK and European logistics design and building quality. The letting agents have been selected for a strong combination of both expert local market knowledge and unrivalled client relationships with Europe’s largest retailers, E-tailers and logistics companies.”

Andrew Gent of the Leeds based industrial property specialists Gent Visick said: “We are excited to be involved in a scheme which not only will have a major impact on the Yorkshire logistics market but also has significant implications for the wider UK logistics sector.”

The first buildings will be available for occupation from as early as Q1 2015.

Mayor of Doncaster, Ros Jones, said: “This is an important milestone for the Inland Port.  This project will deliver huge benefits for both the borough and Sheffield City Region. Jobs and growth are top priorities for me and FARRRS will stimulate the economy around the airport and in Rossington itself through inward investment in new businesses and homes.”

Sustainability is integral to the development, with 300 acres set aside for mitigation, wildlife conservation and landscape betterment. Buildings will be designed to maximise energy efficiency and use renewable, reclaimed and recycled materials wherever possible. Logistics Buildings will achieve BREEAM Very Good accreditation and Excellent accreditation for their office facilities.
